




The program objectives are met through day-long sessions combined with field trips and class projects. Class sessions develop participants' basic awareness and key skills that are necessary to influence and initiate actions that will prepare them to be future leaders in the public and/or private sector. Sessions are typically held the third Tuesday of each month from August to May and address the following topics: * Leadership in a Changing Society * Government and Politics * Business and Economic Development * Justice System * Education * Quality of Life * Health and Human Services * Community Leadership In addition, this program offers extensive networking opportunities with other participants, alumni, Leadership Washington County board members and many other community leaders. Total tuition for the nine-month program is $975.00. $825.00 is paid by the employer/sponsor of the participant with the remaining $150.00 paid by the participant as a commitment to the program. Tuition is not payable until notification of acceptance to the program. Session Structure: Session 1: Orientation What to expect: Expectations/commitments outlined and agreed upon Team building activities Project Teams assignments Session 2: Leadership in a Changing Society What to expect: Discussion of changing leadership qualities A look at socio-economic demographics of the county Identification of personality traits Team building exercises Session 3: Government and politics What to expect: Discuss roles of various local and county elected offices Session 4: Business and Economic Development What to expect: Discuss marketing efforts and Economic issues Group projects Session 5: The Justice System What to expect: Field trip to the Court House/ correctional facility Mock trials Session 6: Educational System Session What to expect: Discussion on educational funding Overview of local area school districts Discussion on technology and education Educational Software demonstration Session 7: Quality of Life What to expect: Discussion/activities dealing with different aspects of life Session 8: Health and Human Services What to expect: Discussion/presentation on Emergency preparedness and first response Discussion on local human service organizations such as the City Mission Session 9: Community Leadership What to expect: Presentation and discussion about the role of volunteers, fund raising, and responsibilities.
